GOLFWORX is the one place where it is acceptable to Drink and Drive
In a lounge setting, one can enjoy a game of golf with friends at only Rs 500 an hour, along with food and beverages. There's a hi-tech edge and all orders are taken on PDAs. If you are an amateur like myself, who's never ever held a golf club, you can take help from professional trainers. Prithviraj, who has played golf for over 12 years, is eager to help. For a beginner, he would start with teaching you how to grip the club—an interlock grip where you take the little finger on the trailing hand and interlock it with the index finger on the hand that goes in front. Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods both use the interlock grip.
The simulator creates a 3D model of the golf course that looks real and is accurate in terms of terrain and elevation data. The trees, bushes amd bunkers are placed as they would be on the course. So you could be playing at the Spyglass Hill Golf Course in Pebble Beach, California or at the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island in South Carolina. The speed at which you hit is captured and displayed on the screen along with the distance remaining from the hole. I managed to get to 117 yards in one shot, not bad for a first timer, I was told.
Those of you who thought they could break the screen with a great shot have no chance. The screen is 2 inches thick and is made of lycra with a feather cushioning. High definition cameras on both corners of the screen capture each move of the player - elevation, speed and posture - and gives an analysis of the technique on the console screen using the swing analysis system. But that's not all at Golfworx. It also offers a small corporate meeting room for 10-15 people, a members only lounge called Baronial which offers a cigar and a single malt bar, where members get a locker each
